May is a transitional month here in our town. The temperatures are rising and the humidity is finding its way back. Our AC is coming on at night when we go to bed and our ceiling fans are running most mornings as we wake up and then again as I begin to prepare dinner. Here is a post from two years ago at this time
Leaves are falling less from the almendro trees, mangoes are the size of my fist ripening on our branches. Soon ready to drop while the avocados today are olive size and textured like kefir limes. They will grow and plumpen exponentially once ready to fall in late summer.
In lots of ways living here feels like going back in time. Admiring our garden is just one of the ways in which I am invited to slow down. Our town only got reliable internet in 2021, the second year we lived here. Tropical storms in knock out power for the whole town so no power and internet signal can be out for a few days. A funeral in town becomes an event closing down the streets so people can gather and mourn. Causing traffic (mostly horse, golf cart and cars) to find new routes or avoid driving those days. That specific anecdote is something beautiful to witness. Less small town and much more Mexican Catholic.
These invitations to slow down and all might just be small town living, something still new to me but for this season of life I am grateful to be experiencing.
Shifting gears… I walked into the bathroom this morning and saw a cute accidental vignette. My favorite swimsuit… Ganni leopard one piece that fits like a dream. I got it four years ago, which I am always stalking on TRR and other resale sites hoping to find a newer version! One of my favorite towels and my current favorite nightgown all happily hanging out behind my back. I am 1000% in my nightgown era and not looking back. Eileen West has the best ones IMO. I love sleeping in them and maybe that feels like going back in time too.
Curious if any place or product take you back in time? Do you find comfort in that too? If you want to experience this for yourself here at our casitas you are in luck! We are renting them out for September & October and offering discounted rates for the low season. Visit our Casa Madre website for all the info.
