January Things
By 'things' I mean items I would get if I were you and you were in a 30 mile radius of the Portland Metro area... and I guess if there was not a state of emergency winter storm wise.
January bled into December if I am being honest. Or is it that December bled into January? Either way I told myself that the New Year would not begin until we wrapped a shoot we had last week, so now I am three days into my new year. We have landed back at Casa Madre, kids are back on routine and I am back to taking a few mins to share whats on my brain with you. Today we are talking home goods!
When we moved into our house in Portland I asked my friend Jess, see how her design studio transformed a 19th century farmhouse here, to come by. I was stumped on a coffee table solution and needed ideas for what to do with our very long wall in the living room. She told me two things that solved my problems: 1) a giant piece of art would be the solution for the wall. NOT a gallery wall which the internet was trying to convince me would be. And 2) a large coffee table was right for our orientation but to look on Offer Up or similar sites for a second hand large coffee table, preferably glass top or see thru so it would not feel like it took up so much space.
The art I put up after her consult has been swapped out as of last summer. I was inspired to paint something myself, but the coffee table I found was perfect and $50 on Offer Up! I have since become an avid user of Facebook Marketplace. After deactivating my account in 2014, Summer 2022 I re-joined just so I could browse and shop. I absolutely love buying second hand and relish in the pursuit of a score! Ask me sometime about how much I paid for two Vintage Hank Lowenstein Padova Chairs, or how with the help of my friends my set of two multiplied to six!
Thank you Jess for continuing to be so generous with your expertise and time.
Which brings us to today… During nap-time yesterday I found myself decompressing from the last two weeks by numbing out on Marketplace. I saved a few items that if I had the use for, the space, or even the resources in Portland to go retrieve them I might have made the sale but alas passing them on to you in the event you have the need for some quality home goods. Not all are STEAL prices but they are all quite reasonable and can add that unexpected touch to your home.
I would love to see all four of these chairs around a dining table. Or maybe one at your desk and one in a bedroom and the other two used as occasional chairs in your living room. The cushions look great or you can swap them out for something more colorful or muted. Either way they look fantastic!
Club chairs are hard to find. These look like quality craftsmanship and upholstery. The bold pattern can bring some life to a dull space and they can be used together or separately. I bought a pair of club chairs last summer and ultimately decided to split them up. One in each of our kids rooms. So that they have a chair to read in, or rather us parents have a chair to read in. I find myself gravitating to their rooms more now that I have a nice place to sit.
I have not wanted a canopy bed since I was in middle school, but for some reason this one is really really attractive to me. I love how it would bring so much form, figure & function to my bedroom. To be fair this is a four post bed, canopy optional. I would prob ditch the canopy top altogether. Also this is priced for two beds, someone is getting rid of two of these!
Similar to the chairs in item 1 above, this is a set of two. Would be great at a desk, in the corner of a room with some books on it or again as an occasional chair. The curves and rattan add texture and bauhaus design.
Did you say STATEMENT COUCH? If that is on your list or vision board then look no further. I actually saw this in person. The upholstery and textile quality is gorgeous! I truly wish I had a use for this. Mike is even on board!!!
That is all for now friends. Happy MLK Day and happy scrolling, happy de-thawing for those of you in the Northern part of the US. Do you have a favorite FB Marketplace, Craigslist or OfferUp score? Or maybe too many to count?
Closing out today with a photo of my kids who made it safely out of Portland last week pre- winter storm & state of emergency in the PNW.
